About Dental Implants

Most of us think of dental implants as a relatively new innovation in dentistry. Actually, primitive examples of implantology can be traced back thousands of years.

Gold wire implants were found in the jawbones of Egyptian mummies. A Roman soldier was exhumed in Europe with an iron dental implant in his jawbone. And skeletons have been found in the Middle East with ivory implants.

These examples, however, are only fascinating facts, demonstrating our forefathers’ forward-thinking ingenuity. Today, modern technology has dramatically improved dental implants and their contributions to the comfort and appearance of countless grateful individuals.

Simply put, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium. Dr. Hall surgically places this root in the jawbone – which, in turn, provides a base for a post that supports an individual replacement tooth, bridge or denture. This process is accomplished in three separate steps:

STEP ONE

PLACING THE IMPLANT — First, the implant — or artificial tooth root — is inserted in the jawbone. After the implant has attached to the jawbone, it provides the essential base for the entire process. During the mending period, you should be able to wear temporary replacement teeth and eat a modified diet.

STEP TWO

ATTACHING THE ABUTMENT — After the implants have connected with the jawbone, external abutments are secured to the implants. This is done by attaching the abutments — which are actually small posts — that supply the foundation for support of your new artificial teeth.

STEP THREE

PLACING THE TEETH — The final step is placement of your new teeth. Dr. Hall will create a prosthesis that closely matches your other teeth in size, color and shape. When the artificial teeth are placed over the abutments, the abutments cannot be seen. The results are natural-looking new teeth without the discomfort often associated with other types of artificial teeth.

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Single Tooth — A dental implant provides a free-standing, non-removable tooth that will not damage adjacent teeth.
  • Bridge — A dental implant can support a bridge that may replace several to an entire set of non-removable teeth.
  • Denture — The implant reduces the looseness of standard dentures, which provides added comfort and function.

A Renewed Smile
Each procedure is virtually pain-free, as Dr. Hall uses hospital-type conscious sedation to relieve any discomfort or anxiety. And all treatment is done at the Hall Center, so you will not be shuffled from one dentist and location to another.

Unlike most offices, all procedures and fabrication of the teeth are done by one dentist at one location. Also remember, Dr. Hall has a thorough knowledge of the placement and restoration of dental implants through advanced training and 25 years of implant experience.

Like all quality dental care, Dr. Hall provides careful pre-treatment evaluation and planning. Just as important, you are provided comprehensive follow-up care — vital for long-term success. And it’s reassuring to know that you are always the vital link to each decision along the way. So, relax and look to the future — to the time when you can talk, eat and smile naturally again.
